Job Description
What You’ll Do:

DSWC is seeking to fill a Conservation Specialist position. The position will be headquartered in the Reynoldsburg central office.

This position is responsible for:

  • Serves as a conservation specialist, supporting the Division in coordination, communication, and obtaining funding through USDA associated programs
  • Acts as liaison with USDA (e.g., develops & maintains relationships, serves as primary point of contact)
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of program offerings and funding opportunities
  • Coordinates and leads division efforts to seek USDA funding to support Division conservation programs
  • Identifies and researches potential USDA grant opportunities relevant to the Division’s mission and objectives, with the goal of expanding and enhancing existing conservation programs of the Division
  • Collaborates with division staff to ensure proposals align with organizational goals and objectives
  • Collects and shares information about program activities, changes, and participation requirements
  • Prepares and submits grant proposals, including writing narratives, developing budgets, generating proposals, applications and supporting documents
  • Optimizes the grant administration process and prepares progress and financial reports & manages grants across life cycle, including tracking schedules, serving as a liaison between funding agencies and division, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements and regulations
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Ohio agricultural conservation needs and division programming
    Provides support for development and implementation of division programs (e.g. H2Ohio)
  • Meets with division and SWCD staff to develop program guidelines & ensure proper delivery (e.g., evaluate program documentation, participate in development of program requirements)
  • Assists with tracking & management of databases for water quality projects
  • Presents updates and information to stakeholders regarding conservation programs, grants, and other topics as needed
  • As a member of the watershed team provides support for watershed program activities and needs (e.g., assembles data, assists with the update of regional watershed plans, coordinates and responds to stakeholders’ requests, provides information and support to stakeholders and SWCDs for development of NPS-IS or similar watershed plans, assists with development of new conservation programming, supports SWCDs and the Division in identifying appropriate funding opportunities and developing proposals)
  • Supports the delivery of conservation programming, collaborates with stakeholders, partners, and outside agencies, and participates in and developing materials for conferences, trainings, and seminars as directed
  • Completes miscellaneous administrative duties (e.g., analyzes reports & studies & recommends course of action; prepares reports & correspondence; coordinates workshops &/or meetings; prepares education materials, scripts, booklets & pamphlets, displays & exhibits)
  • Assist in development of policy & procedures
  • Initiates &/or responds to inquiries concerning regulations & requests for information
