Habitat and Conservation Manager, Winous Point Marsh Conservancy
About the Position
The Winous Point Marsh Conservancy (WPMC) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the conservation and management of wetlands and wetland dependent wildlife. WPMC maintains 3000 acres of diked coastal wetlands that are managed for a variety of uses, importantly including waterfowl hunting by the Winous Point Shooting Club (WPSC), which is one of the oldest operating duck hunting clubs in North America. We are seeking a hard-working and self motivated Habitat and Conservation Manager to expand our existing staff capacity as it relates to wetland habitat management, conservation program delivery, and fall hunting operations. This position will play a key role in ensuring that our marshes are maintained and managed for both research and conservation uses as well as high-quality waterfowl hunting experiences. Furthermore, development and oversight of conservation grants and agreements will be an important component of this position as they are leveraged to augment our wetland management utilized to produce quality wetland habitat for multiple user groups.
Key Responsibilities
• Work closely with existing WPMC and WPSC management staff to conduct year-round wetland habitat management actions including water level management via water control structures and pumps
• Maintain dikes/levees and associated infrastructure via mowing, brush clearing, levelling, and herbicide application
• Deliver in marsh habitat management practices including moist-soil managment and invasive species control
• Write conservation grants and seek outside conservation funding for wetland habitat restoration, invasive species management, and wetland enhancements at Winous Point
• Representing WPMC at professional conservation meetings and in partnership
agreements
• Oversee conservation and capital improvement projects including hiring and supervising contractors and suppliers, managing budgets, and post-construction assuredness
• Build and maintain duck hunting blinds, docks, shooting holes and access trails
• Assist the WPSC Manager with fall hunting hospitality and customer service including scheduling and managing guides, kitchen staff, and members
• Assist, as needed, with buildings, grounds, and equipment maintenance
Desired Skills
• Experience with tractors and large equipment, power and hand tools

• Background in waterfowl hunting or similar
• Customer service and hospitality
• Boat and ATV operation
• Herbicide and controlled fire experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to habitat conservation and land stewardship
