Outreach & Engagement Coordinator, Kent State University

The Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University seeks a full time Outreach and Engagement Coordinator to support partner outreach, engagement, and participatory (“citizen”) science for the H2Ohio Wetland Monitoring Program (H2Ohio WMP). The successful candidate will cultivate partnerships, produce communication products, and coordinate citizen/community science activities. The coordinator will contribute to science-based decision making to improve environmental quality by working with a team of academic researchers from the Lake Erie and Aquatic Research Network (LEARN) in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and other wetland design and management partners throughout the state of Ohio. The candidate will join a dynamic, supportive research group at Kent State University with opportunities for collaboration across disciplines and engagement with state policy makers, stakeholders, and public audiences.   • Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Bachelors in science communication, communications, journalism, environmental education, ecology, environmental science, geology, earth science, chemistry, or related field; Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; Ability and motivation to cultivate a supportive and safe work environment; Effective at working both independently and as a member of a team; Excellent organization skills; Valid U.S. driver’s license Desired Qualifications: Masters or Ph.D. in science communication, communications, journalism, environmental education, ecology, environmental science, geology, earth science, chemistry, or related field; Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with incremental deadlines; Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information to both expert and non-expert audiences; Social and organizational skills that come from previous work experience that includes communication activities and regular interaction with the public, media, educators, scientists, and government agencies; Experience with one or more common ecosystem ecology tools including field sampling and experimentation and soil, sediment, or water analyses; Proficiency with basic software tools including Google applications, the Microsoft Office Suite; Familiarity with StoryMaps, other ESRI Products (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Survey 123), and other commonly used communication and graphic design software tools; Familiarity with Esri products (e.g., ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Online); Ability to travel for field work and project meetings.
