PhD Student, George Mason University
The Christova Algal Ecology Lab at George Mason University is recruiting a PhD student! I am looking for a new PhD-level graduate student to join my laboratory in Fall 2026. Current and upcoming projects include benthic harmful algal blooms (HABs) in flowing waters with focus on Microcoleus, manipulative lab experiments with anatoxin-producing cyanobacteria, and investigations of stream algae in general. Students should have a Master’s Degree and scientific background in a relevant discipline such as aquatic science, phycology, microbiology, ecology, biology, or environmental science.
Dr. Christova’s laboratory is located at the Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center (PEREC) of George Mason University, Virginia. PEREC is a state-of-the art facility in Woodbridge, Virginia (https://perec.science.gmu.edu/) with vibrant and interdisciplinary student and faculty community. The PhD student will join the Department of Environmental Science and Policy (https://science.gmu.edu/academics/departments-units/environmental-science-policy).
Funding is available to qualified students through the ESP Department, externally-funded research grants, and fellowships.
