We are looking for a postdoctoral associate working on fisheries acoustic in the Laurentian Great Lake. Hydroacoustics is used worldwide in both marine and freshwater environments to estimate distribution and abundance of fish and larger invertebrates and Cornell is at the forefront of the application of these methods in lakes. The individual will use available and new data collected with active acoustics mounted on surface and underwater drones that has already provided unprecedented data on fish and invertebrates in the Great Lakes. The individual we seek should have a strong quantitative background, ability to work with large datasets, proficiency in R or Python and ability to develop scripts for R and Echoview software. Interest in fisheries, fisheries acoustics, aquatic ecology, and spatial ecology is also important. The postdoc will work with scientists at Cornell University, SUNY Brockport, and University of Alaska as well as USGS agency scientist at the Great Lakes Science Center.
Specifically, the individual will:
- Analyze acoustic data with existing software (Echoview, R, Python).
- Collaborate with USGS scientists on field data collections.
- Investigate the spatial patterns of fish and invertebrates in the Great Lakes.
- Present results at scientific meetings and to regional management groups and publish in the primary scientific literature.
