System Wide Monitoring Program Technician, Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (KBNERR)

The Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (KBNERR), located in Homer, Alaska is part of the Alaska Center for Conservation Science (ACCS) at University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and is hiring a System Wide Monitoring Program Technician. This is a Research Tech Level 4 position and will manage and maintain KBNERR’s meteorological and water quality stations, and is responsible for management and interpretation of long-term monitoring data. The ideal candidate is a collaborative worker, comfortable in remote field locations and well versed in data management, statistical analysis, and scientific writing. KBNERR is one of 30 National Estuarine Research Reserves designated across the country and is a partnership between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and UAA. Our mission is to enhance appreciation and understanding of Alaska’s coastal ecosystems to ensure they remain healthy and productive. As part of ACCS, we foster research, education, and collaboration on biological conservation and natural resource management throughout Alaska.   • Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the research (e.g. science, math, business) and four years experience in a field relevant to the research, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You should possess knowledge of data collection procedures, data entry procedures, and computerized spreadsheets and databases. Ability to manipulate data to produce charts and graphs to display trends in data. Knowledge of statistical analysis. Ability to interpret data to detect problems or irregularities. Ability to interpret data results for reporting. Ability to work in remote locations, sometimes in extreme conditions. Ability to manage laboratory safety procedures. Ability to lead/supervise the activities of others. Possess budget/fiscal skills. Have knowledge of boat safety protocols. Experience and ability to pilot boats.
